The Azalea Festival Art Show is returning in 2023! The show will be held Memorial Day weekend, May 27 & 28, 2023 during the town-wide Azalea Festival. The Azalea Festival Art Show is a two-day juried art show and sale at Azalea Middle School. Local artists from novice to professional participated with a wide range of featured art. Professional artists provide art demonstrations throughout the show.
During the second Saturday of the month, The Manley Art Center holds a reception for each guest artist from 3-6. In addition, a combination of venues in downtown Brookings unites local artists and craftspeople by holding open houses at their locations. This is a great way to experience the local art scene.
More than seventy paintings were displayed on the Boardwalk fence from May through the first week of September. People’s Choice ballots selected the winners and five local sponsors each chose their favorite for an award. The award winning paintings from this summer’s show will be on display at Manley Art Center during October. Some are still available for sale!
Artists who sold their panels during the summer include: Laura Lee Cundiff, Rita Staudinger, Ann Ostrowski, Nola Range, Janice Taylor and Pete Chasar. Numerous others received inquiries to purchase and some of these were likely also sold. One teen is still trying to decide if she will sell her painting. All sales that were made during the summer were negotiated between the artist and buyer. When the winning panels are hung at Manley Art Center the prices will be posted and sales will be made through the gallery.
The fourth Art at the Port Exhibition is planned for 2023. Registration at Wright’s for a panel will begin on March 7, 2023, and the completed art is due on May 19 and 20 at Pithitude Gift Shop. All entries must be on the authorized and registered art panels, but panels are always 16” x 24”, so artists may begin planning their entries ahead of time. The 2023 theme is “Painting the Coast”. This is not limited to literally painting seascapes, but includes anything coastal or marine. Start planning your entry now and we look forward to seeing it next May.
